A Nigerian court is set to make a crucial decision on October 9 regarding the potential bail for Tigran Gambaryan, a senior binance executive who has been in detention for more than six months. The court in Abuja decided to delay its ruling until October after listening to lengthy arguments on Wednesday, as reported by Bloomberg.

Nigerian Court Postpones Decision After Hearing

Gambaryan, who previously oversaw financial crime compliance at binance, is facing serious allegations of currency manipulation and money laundering. His legal team is advocating for bail on the grounds of urgent medical needs that cannot be met within the Nigerian prison system.

The defense has argued that Gambaryan's health requires specific medical attention that is not readily available in the local prison facilities. On the contrary, the prosecution insists that the existing medical facilities in Abuja can effectively cater to the health needs of the detained executive.

The State Prosecutor, Ekele Iheanacho, has maintained that the care provided at the prison hospital and another specialized facility in Abuja meets the necessary medical standards for Gambaryan.

Gambaryan’s Family Voice Concerns

Concerns have been raised by Gambaryan's family regarding his treatment during the legal proceedings. They expressed dismay that he was denied a wheelchair to enter the court on Monday, compelling him to use crutches despite evident pain and discomfort. His family observed visible signs of distress during the court session, with Gambaryan reportedly shedding tears.

"They are also deeply concerned about his health conditions including a herniated disc in his back as well as suffering bouts of Pneumonia, Malaria, and Tonsillitis,” the family stated.

The Nigerian prosecutors initially opposed the bail request, disputing claims of Gambaryan's serious health issues despite medical records highlighting the necessity for urgent surgical intervention. The legal team representing Gambaryan has encountered challenges in preparing for the trial due to restrictions within the Kuje prison where he is currently held.

Recently, Gambaryan submitted a fresh bail application based on health concerns, but the Nigerian economic crimes agency lawyers persist in opposing his release on medical grounds, according to statements from his family.
